Fernstrike’s Offerings:

Auction Offering #1:

Organisations identified by Creator: Koalas In Care, WIRES, The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR)
Please note: bidders are not required to donate to the charities the creator has identified, but rather they are strongly encouraged to consider the choices and must choose from one of the charities/organisations on our list.

Type of Fanwork: Fanfiction
General likes: Character studies, relationship studies, cultural differences, politics, moral questions, long conversations, gapfillers, ghosts (real or metaphorical!), atmospheric stories, celebrations/customs, general worldbuilding, headcanons that explain canon weirdness or add depth to it, war stories, platonic relationships, non-human characters (e.g. elves), folklore/mythology/fairytales, musical references/theory/themes.
General dislikes/triggers: Fluff (unless there's room to include some dark undercurrent), OC-centric stories, extreme violence, PWP, noncon (dubcon is fine), A/B/O, mpreg, BDSM, character bashing of any kind, AUs (*except for beta-reading - I'm fine with AUs in this regard*). Basically nothing above an M rating and nothing too kinky.
Length/size: Minimum 2k (see notes for specifics)
Fandom(s) / Character(s) and Pairing(s): Tolkien, Celebrimbor/Annatar, Sauron, Eonwe, Nazgul, Isildur, Tar-Miriel, Thranduil, Oropher
Ratings I am willing to do: G, Teen, Mature
Notes: Bids up to and including $20 are guaranteed a minimum of 2000 words. Bids of $22 up to and including $34 guarantee a minimum of 4000 words. Bids of $36 up to and including $50 guarantee a minimum of 7000 words. Anything above $50 will get up to 10,000 words and we can negotiate a complementary work (e.g. a graphic, a playlist, turning it into a podfic).

On top of the general tropes, I absolutely love anything Second Age, especially to do with Ost-in-Edhil, the Last Alliance, or Numenor. I'm also fond of the Sindar (especially the elves of Mirkwood). Beyond the mentioned DNWs, I won't write anything portraying Angbang in a positive light. Feel free to check my AO3 (pseud is fernstrike) to see what kinds of Tolkien fics I've written before.

The work will be completed by or before 31 August 2020; the reason for the potentially long wait is that I am completing my thesis in May. I appreciate your bid and will work to get it done ASAP within my means!
Minimum Starting Bid: $10
Minimum Bid Increment: $2

Auction will start on the 23rd of FEB at 00:00:01 GMT and finish on the 29th of FEB at 23:59:59 GMT. Please be advised that bids placed before or after this period will not count and will be considered invalid.

Type of Fanwork: Fan labour (research)
General likes: Character studies, relationship studies, cultural differences, politics, moral questions, long conversations, gapfillers, ghosts (real or metaphorical!), atmospheric stories, celebrations/customs, general worldbuilding, headcanons that explain canon weirdness or add depth to it, war stories, platonic relationships, non-human characters (e.g. elves), folklore/mythology/fairytales, musical references/theory/themes.

Basically nothing above an M rating and nothing too kinky.
Length/size: N/A
Fandom(s) / Character(s) and Pairing(s): Tolkien, Any fandom
Ratings I am willing to do: G, Teen, Mature
Notes: I can compile research as well as personal insights into the topics below (inclusive of illustrations, graphs, further reading if relevant). The research can be tailored towards any specific project you may be working on. For anyone bidding up to and including $35, please select up to 2 of the 7 relatively broad topics below, and you will get up to 4 pages of work. For bids higher than $35 you can pick up to 3 topics and will get up to 7 pages.
General research:
- Anything to do with politics. My academic background and work experience (practical and research) is primarily in international relations, so I can provide research in many related areas with a broad geographic and historical range: domestic politics, international politics, economics, war (civil war and between states), political theory, development, migration, etc. Let me know what you need specifically.
- Musical theory and practice. I've been a singer and multi-instrumentalist for the past 15 years and can provide insight into musical theory, musical history, as well as personal experience in the playing of the following (all of which I am proficient in): harp, voice, piano, oboe, cello. I can also do research into specific instruments, notation, and forms of music around the world, especially in Europe and Southeast Asia, or in specific historical periods.
- Performing arts industry. I was part of it for a decade (music concerts of multiple genres, opera, drama, musical theatre) as a performer, writer, and in backstage logistics, so I can provide anecdotal insight into all aspects of showbusiness complemented with additional research.
- First hand experiences living in: Singapore, Spain (Madrid), Russia (Moscow), Norway (Trondheim and Oslo), Finland (Helsinki), UK (Oxford and London). Can also give a visitor's perspective for: Paris, Basse-Normandie, Berlin, Cologne, Prague, St Petersburg, Dublin, Tokyo
- Mythology, folklore, rituals, fairy tales, superstitions, ghost stories. I can conduct research into these areas in the Nordic countries, central Europe, western Europe, Russia, Ireland, and the Malay Archipelago. I can also provide both research and anecdotal insight into aspects of modern witchcraft traditions that are secular or have cultural overlap (correspondences, moon phases, rituals, wheel of the year, spellcrafting, etc)
- History. My areas of interest/specialty are imperial and Soviet Russia, WWII (both European and Pacific theatre), piracy (esp. the Golden Age of piracy and piracy in Asia), and colonial Southeast Asia (particularly Malaya).
Tolkien specific research:
- Anything related to the Legendarium, but my specialty in terms of lore is the Second Age - any time, area, character, or cultural group during this period. I have written and presented a paper on the domestic and international politics of the Second Age so can provide particular insight into this aspect. I can also provide a general political overview of any time period or region of Tolkien's world. The only area I cannot delve into in terms of Tolkien is linguistics.
The work will be completed by or before 31 August 2020; the reason for the potentially long wait is that I am completing my thesis in May. I appreciate your bid and will work to get it done ASAP within my means!
Minimum Starting Bid: $10
Minimum Bid Increment: $5
